Sorayah of The Girl in All Leopard shares an article with us reflecting upon the importance of self care and self love.

When it comes to the people we love and care about, we have no problem helping them out. Sometimes we’ll even go above and beyond just to give a helping hand, but why do we feel the need to help others and not ourselves? Why do we assume everything will be okay within our lives without self-improvement and self-care?

Sometimes it takes a while before we realize we need to make some changes and start making better decisions for ourselves. These incidents usually come to our attention when something tremendous happens or life changing. It’s like we ‘snap out of it’ and start focusing on our lives instead.

In all honesty though, how can we ever expect to help others when we need to help ourselves first? What’s that saying?

“You can’t pour from an empty glass!”

Sorayah

Maybe that should be a motto to live by from now on for some of us. We often think that putting ourselves first can make us look “selfish” or “inconsiderate” when in realty, we’re just looking out for our well-being. There is NOTHING selfish about that!

There comes a time in our lives when we need to take a step back and look at the big picture. It’s important to analyze how far we’ve come and honor all our accomplishments we have made, but we also need to focus on the toxic traits we have.

No matter what anyone says, EVERYBODY has some kind of negative characteristic that they can work on. Putting yourself first and working on these attributes not only helps you, but also those around you. It will make you feel better in the long run once you achieved the goal(s) you’re trying to pursue, as well.

Self-care is not just about bettering yourself, but also involves taking care of you and loving who you are as a person.

You get one body to live in, so why would you destroy your only home?

Sorayah

You wouldn’t want to live in a messy, unorganized house, right? So why not take care of your body in the same way?

This can be anything from face masks, eating better, journaling, reading, a stress free night alone watching movies, or simply buying yourself that item you’ve been viewing all week on Amazon (to name a few).

Self-care has NO limits, as long as you’re making yourself happy taking care of YOU! (and of course, not hurting anyone else in the process). You would be amazed just how these small gestures can make you feel better time after time.

Self-improvement is something I believe we will always continue to work on.

There is no ‘finish line’ when it comes to bettering ourselves.

Sorayah

It’s something we will work on for the rest of our lives as we continue to grow and evolve. We will always go through obstacles in life that will challenge our mind, body, and spirit, so it’s important to step back every now and then and make sure we are on the right track. It’s easy to lose sight of the big picture and end up on a bad path again with our toxic ways.

(SIDE NOTE- If you feel your friends or family are a huge influence in your harmful behavior, it’s probably best to cut all ties now instead of later.)

To sum it all up, you are the only person who has the power to take care of you and correct your past mistakes. If you don’t do it, who else will?

Not. A. Damn. Soul.
