Tune-In Tuesdays #108: “Soft Bits In,” a Chiptune Tribute to the Flaming Lips is Now on Kickstarter

Levi “Doctor Octoroc” has recently kicked off the Kickstarter campaign for “Soft Bits In,” his chiptune take on The Flaming Lips’ album, “The Soft Bulletin.”

Backers can enjoy a variety of rewards for pledging their support to the campaign, including: a deluxe digital download of the album, a special edition vinyl press, a two-hour “Chiptunes 101” master class with Doctor Octoroc, and a chiptune track produced just for you by Doctor Octoroc himself.

“‘The Soft Bulletin’ was one of the first albums I ever saw in a store and was like, ‘I want this album,'” Doctor Octoroc said during our interview about “Soft Bits” In last year. “It’s an album that I love, an album that I thought would go really well in the format, so I decided to go for that.”

CHOO-choo-ooo-oo-o…oo.oo. Well, bug buddies, it looks like our hype train has pulled aside for a pitstop. We’ve decided to conclude The Burgundy Zine Merch Store Kickstarter campaign early.

There are just two weeks left for our Kickstarter to reach its funding goal! We’re 33 percent funded and can’t thank our backers enough for their support and generous contributions so far.

Donations start at a dollar and every reward receives art – commissions start at $25! If we surpass our funding goal, we will donate the surplus to both the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the George Floyd Memorial.

Your support will enable our community to launch its very own merch store and keep growing. Please help us spread the word about our campaign.

The Burgundy Zine Kickstarter Update #4: Help Us Help Others

I’m going to be frank. It honestly feels like there couldn’t be a worse time to run a Kickstarter campaign – and I’m not saying that to start a pity party, but I’ve been holding off sharing news about the Kickstarter because there are far bigger, more relevant issues currently weighing on all of our minds.

It’s like a tug-o-war. We don’t want to let down our community by cutting our Kickstarter short, but we find it unethical to promote our own fundraising when you could be donating to The George Floyd Memorial Fund, your local bail fund, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Legal Defense Fund, and donate to the countless other victims of injustice.

We want you to support these organizations and individuals with us.

Comics to Inspire and Educate: Naseed Gifted on Creating P.B. Soldier

Frustrated by the lack of superheroes that “looked like his son,” engineer and educator Naseed Gifted created his own superhero: “P.B. Soldier.”

“P.B. Soldier” truly resonates with the reader by combining history, science, and real-world experiences in an enriching and educational 65-episode story arch.

“When you talk about imagination, you want people to be able to dream again,” Gifted said during our recent interview. “That’s what this whole project is about, having individuals be able to dream and see themselves in the story.”

During our phone call with Gifted, we learned more origin story for “P.B. Soldier” and its Kickstarter campaign that launched this month.
