The Arkansas-based punk rock band Go For Gold sheds light on the importance of moving on.
“Let Me Go” is a song written about personal experiences and a troubling relationship but at its core… It’s something we can all relate to.
Understanding when we’re creating more harm and not providing help is important. Sometimes we’re the ones that are to blame.
From my experience and from the lyrics, you can tell this was a very two-sided problem. Myself and the other person in this relationship weren’t right for each other and we stayed together longer than we should have. It took a long time to understand why.
We stayed together out of comfort and fear.
Go For Gold
We’d been together for so long that we were afraid of restarting – and why should we restart when everything here is “just fine.” Maybe this was the best we both could get. Maybe we didn’t deserve anything at all. We both were unhappy but were afraid that being alone would create even more unhappiness than being with someone whose company we didn’t enjoy.
At some point, we all have to understand that we need to take care of ourselves. It’s okay to be selfish at times and it’s okay to be “alone.” Moving on is a common theme in many of our songs. It’s a hard trait to learn due to the fact that we all are creatures of habit. We enjoy what we already know, even if it makes us unhappy.
So, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Do what you know is right. Don’t let fear control your life.
