Inspired by British rock legends including David Bowie, The Clash, and The Rolling Stones, James creates gritty, catchy tracks with a contemporary flare.
“After touring the States with his previous band, the group eventually dissolved and James decided to focus on the formation of his solo project,” explains the press release for ‘Kings.’ “The time spent performing in the band essentially helped sculpt the identity of his new project and developed the right ecstatic to correspond with the music he wanted to create.”
“I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist.”

Kings by Micky James
Right off the bat, “Kings” kicks off with guitars teeming with an energy reminiscent of The Who or The Rolling Stones.
Vocally, the single couldn’t be more lively. James emphasizes each lyric with such personality while the backing vocal harmonies add a certain shimmer to the track. It gets you moving, practically jumping out of your seat, shufflin’ your shoulders and kickin’ your legs.
The chorus is particularly anthemic, like a rock’n’roll call to action — and the guitar break that follows it is downright gnarly.
In fact, the guitars throughout the entirety of “Kings” are just insane, and James’ vocal performance is incredibly admirable.
Suddenly, there’s a sunny-shift during the bridge that completely catches you off guard in the best way possible. It’s a testament to how versatile James is as an artist.
Whether you’re a die-hard classic rock fan or need a jam that’ll get you up and on your feet, “Kings” certainly rules.
