Six years in the making, The Ones You Forgot is a versatile and energetic group that draws inspiration from pop-punk bands that dominated your favorite radio stations and Tumblr pages amidst the 2010s (All Time Low, State Champs, We Are The In Crowd, etc…).

Since then, the band has opened for Never Shout Never, Emarosa, Boys Like Girls, Four Years Strong, and Seaway, to name a few. The Ones You Forgot also rocked the stage at the 25th Anniversary of the Vans Warped Tour.

“‘Something For Me’ embraces the freedom of escaping an unhealthy relationship, and the struggle that unfortunately comes along with it,” the band said in a press release for the single. “It’s all about realizing the love you deserve and learning that it’s not fair for you to keep waiting for respect, especially when you repeatedly ask for it.”

“One of the most frustrating parts, is when you still crave that person even when you know they are only killing you from the inside out.”

The intro is the perfect build-up for the rockin’ guitars that slam on during verse and continue to pump energy throughout “Something For Me.” The lo-fi vocals are gracefully highlighted by the chime-like sound effects that set the pace.

As soon as those guitars and drums kick on, you can’t help but throw yourself out of your chair and start dancing around your room. Bonus points if you refuse to resist the urge to sing into a nearby hairbrush, comb, or water bottle.

The first verse fluidly slides right into the catchy chorus, which pays homage to each of the members’ talents. Both vocally and instrumentally the chorus is so alive.

With each verse, the song continues to evolve, keeping you on the edge of your earbuds. Before you know it, there are breathtaking backing vocals and the guitars adapt to a new melody. Each shift further amplifies the immersive, full-bodied sound of the single.

There’s a certain electricity about The Ones You Forgot that “Something For Me” showcases perfectly. Their sound is empowering, inspired, and rejuvenating.

So whip out your black nail polish and crank up “Something For Me” while you flip off the douchebag who tried to break your heart — just make sure to stand six-feet away as you flag your favorite finger to the sky at them.
