London-based musician Sleepwoka touches listeners with his synth-heavy, emotive ballad, “How I Was Wrong.”

Packing introspection into tracks that are bursting with an electric sound, Sleepwoka produces all of his music in his bedroom in North London, explains the press release for “How I Was Wrong.”

“Whereas for many 2020 has been the year that stood still, for Sleepwoka he has been busy songwriting, recording, filming music videos and broadcasting live stream gigs,” the press release says. “Sleepwoka’s lyrics often reflect on the human condition and he is fascinated by how we change over time as human beings. Particularly poignant to the times we find ourselves currently living in, ‘How I Was Wrong’ explores the notion we often believe in our youth that our best years are yet to come.”

“When we were younger, we always felt that the best times were always ahead of us and that we would be the kings of this life! As the years go by, and we begin to achieve our life goals, we realize that those carefree times were actually the years where we felt most free and alive. Although we had nothing, somehow life felt more authentic.”

How I Was Wrong by Sleepwoka

The introductory piano keys are so gripping, they practically hug you with their emotional tone.

Not before long, Sleepwoka introduces 808s and synths that bring the 50s-esque pianos up to date with a more contemporary sound. It’s such a unique incorporation of elements and genres that’d otherwise be regarded as so polar from one another.

His vocals are particularly smooth, delicately grazing over the instrumentals with introspective lyricism. The lines throughout “How I Was Wrong” truly feel like a glimpse into the artist’s mind and heart.

The production is so intricate and immersive, it’s mindblowing to consider the entire track was produced solely by Sleepwoka in his bedroom studio.
