What in the World of Politics

On Saturday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) held his first rally for the 2020 US Presidential Election in Brooklyn, NY.

“We’re gonna win this election because we are putting together the strongest grass-roots campaign in the history of American politics,” Sanders said.

Sanders said he looks to bring together the American people and defeat racism, xenophobia, homophobia, religious bigotry, and President Donald Trump, “the most dangerous president in modern American history.”

On the other hand, Michael Bloomberg confirmed on Tuesday that he will not be running in the 2020 United States Presidential Election, according to Slate.

“I believe I would defeat Donald Trump in a general election,” Bloomberg said. “But I am clear-eyed about the difficulty of winning the Democratic nomination in such a crowded field.”

What Else is Going on in the World of Politics?

On Tuesday, the Washington Post covered the downfall of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau is being accused of questionable brokering, acting hypocritically, and displaying sexist behavior.

Former members of his cabinet have been chipping their two cents in and media outlets have been lapping it all up.

Trudeau’s charm seems to be a thing of the past while he scrambles for ways to justify his actions.

What in the World of Arts and Entertainment

On Monday, HBO aired the second half of Oprah Winfrey’s documentary “Leaving Neverland,” according to Fox News. The documentary focuses on boys who accused Michael Jackson of sexually assaulting them in 1993.

“For me, this moment transcends Michael Jackson,” Winfrey said in front of a studio audience that included over 100 abuse survivors, according to CNN. “This is a moment in time that allows us to see this societal corruption. It’s like a scourge on humanity. If it gets you, our audience, to see how it happens, then some good would have come of it.”

The Jackson family has denied the allegations made in the documentary and their estate lawyer has filed a lawsuit against HBO on the account of breaching a non-disparagement clause from 1992.

The Jackson estate attorneys have called the documentary “a one-sided marathon of unvetted propaganda to shamelessly exploit an innocent man no longer here to defend himself.”

HBO responded by stating they would air the documentary to “allow everyone the opportunity to assess the film and the claims in it for themselves.”

What Else is Going on in the World

On Sunday, a church in West Virginia was burned to the ground – but there’s just one catch. Not a single bible was jeopardized by the fire (talk about not feeling the burn), according to the Coal City Fire Department.

“Though the odds were against us, God was not,” Coal City Fire Department wrote in their Facebook post, which included photos of the miraculous occurrence.

In other news, Target is raising their minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020, according to INSIDER.

Target CEO Brian Cornell also paid homage to the 350,000 employees who played a hand in the success of the company achieving their strongest year of sales growth in over a decade during their earnings call for the 2018 fiscal year.

“Thanks to the dedication of Target’s team, we delivered our strongest traffic and comparable sales growth in well over a decade, and our 2018 Adjusted EPS set a new all-time record for the company,” Cornell wrote in a statement on Tuesday.
