Peter of Joyful Source shares five vital tips for ensuring your wellbeing this summer.

During the hot summer months, when the temperatures suddenly skyrocket leaving you in sweating misery, it’s important to prioritize your well-being. The summer heat can be especially hard on the body, so you should modify your lifestyle habits and try your best to stay healthy.

From drinking more water to seeking shade everywhere, these five tips will help you stay vigorous and go through another summer healthy and nurtured.

Eat Light

Light food options are the best in summer. Heavy meals — such as pasta — will leave you sluggish and unmotivated to get moving. On top of that, your digestive system will have to work harder to process all that food.

That’s why you should opt for fresh, local foods. Salads are the safest and healthiest choice for summer. You can mix a variety of ingredients such as watercress, spinach and black kale, with radishes, avocado, tomatoes, chickpeas, black olives and toasted pine nuts for the ultimate salad recipe.

All you need to add is a little bit of salmon, turkey, feta, top with lime and ginger in cold-pressed olive oil and you’ve got yourself a delicious meal to keep you powered up throughout the day.

Stay Active

Breaking a sweat is inevitable during summer. However, despite regular perspiration when you walk to work or run errands, you should also try to make time for actual exercise. No matter how draining that sounds, your body needs to have a healthy routine and grow through workouts.

That’s why you should modify your workout routines to fit the sweltering summer. Instead of pumping iron in stifling gyms, go to the beach or swimming pool and take a few laps in the water every day. The more variety you include in your training, the more will your body learn and be able to grow better.

Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated while you pump that iron!

Protect Your Hair

The sea, the sand and the sun are always responsible for making your hair look its worst. This is especially true when you combine all three together and soak up the sun after spending hours in the water.

Furthermore, all the sweat that covers your scalp during the day can wreak havoc on your hair and make it look as oily as ever. To make sure you have a decent hairstyle look for the best shampoo for oily hair and wash your hair thoroughly.

This is especially important after coming home from the beach because the sand can reach even the tiniest of ridges and stay on your scalp. This can cause irritation and prevent your hair from looking gorgeous.

Don’t Forget to Sip On H20

The heat is extremely straining, and with the sun being super dehydrating, you need to make sure you have a bottle of water with you at all times. When the temperatures soar, you’ll need an effective way to combat the heat, and there’s no better way than water.

With 16-20 ounces of water 1-2 hours before exercising and 6-12 ounces of water every 15 minutes when you’re outside, you’ll have no trouble fighting the summertime heat.

Make your daily dose of H2O extra refreshing by infusing it with fruits and herbs. It’s a great way to add flavor to your water without having to make it too sweet or add calories.

Slather On SPF

Applying sunscreen should be your practice throughout the entire year, not only in the summer. However, if you’re not doing it during colder months, you should definitely make it your priority when the sun becomes more damaging and starts emitting stronger UV rays.

Therefore, get a water-resistant sunscreen if you plan on spending time in the water too. Don’t forget to reapply it every two hours just in case.

For extra protection, sport wide-brimmed hats and light clothes that’ll cover you up without making you feel warm.
