when we could buy liquid happiness for just a dollar or two,
why would i wanna be anywhere else but in a coffee shop with you,

you’re the only cream and sugar that i need,
so i’ll take my cup of jet fuel black, please,

peace is in your heart,
and love is in your arms,
art is in your eyes,
and in your sips and sighs,
i love you like my favorite mug,
you warm me with your hugs,
and when we have our own house we can raise a lot of pugs,
or we can get some beagles,
and name them after different types of bagels,
on the couch with poppy seed and sesame,
in between the two of us, you and me,

we can watch reruns of the simpsons,
on our few days in,
and i can tell you for the hundredth time why marge has been my favorite from the start,
one day we’ll have a bart, lisa, and maggie of our own,
in a house within the forest that we can call our home,

when we could buy liquid happiness for just a dollar or two,
why would i wanna be anywhere else but in a coffee shop with you,
you’re the only cream and sugar that i need,
so i’ll take my cup of jet fuel black, please,

please pour me a little more,
i’m not quite ready to go out that door,
i could sit in this cafe forever,
reveling in its ambiance together,
i’m tethered to your every word,
every single noun, adjective, and verb,
every sticky syllable and tongue twister,
we just giggle as the sounds begin to bubble and blister,
i know i’m buzzing from the caffeine,
but i know this is what the movies mean,
when they talk about what happiness is on the big ol’ theater’s screen,
i miss you when you’re not around,
even when you’re just across our town,

when we’re laying together at night,
holding each other with all our might,
do you think about the plants and trees, the flowers and the birds and bees,
or do you think about spending the rest of the century with me,
sometimes i think about the photos that would adorn our walls,
or what our answering machine might say when we can’t be bothered to take a call,
our future christmas cards,
or snuggling by a fireplace of our own when the snow is falling really hard,
what little moments do you foresee,
and could you please share them with me?

when we could buy liquid happiness for just a dollar or two,
why would i wanna be anywhere else but in a coffee shop with you,
you’re the only cream and sugar that i need,
so i’ll take my cup of jet fuel black, please,
please pour me a little more,
i’m not quite ready to walk out that door,
let’s just sit here together,
in the warmth of this cafe forever.
