A Bit of Context…

Residents of Delaware County and fellow journalists filled the quaint parking lot of the Herbology located at 409 Baltimore Pike, Morton, Pa.

Smiles could be seen as patients chatted with one another about what strains they’ve had the most success with treating their conditions. Honks of encouragement roared from those driving down Baltimore pike.

Grassroots, a grower and producer throughout the United States, also had a table providing information about their products, including their upcoming concentrates and tanks.

“We will be releasing concentrates in half grams and grams across all 48 dispensaries in Pennsylvania,” said Erica Kunkle, the Pennsylvania Sales Manager for Grassroots.

“We are really looking forward to releasing our Diamonds, which are highly crystalized and very potent sauce concentrates.”

In addition to their concentrates, Grassroots will release cannabis vaporizer cartridges and disposable pens by July, Kunkle said.

Birthday Cake, an indica dominant strain of cannabis high known for its signature scent and high concentration of the terpenes B-caryophyllene, myrcene, and limonene, is currently Grassroots top-selling flower, according to Kunkle.

“At Grassroots, we really are all about the [medical marijuana] patients,” Kunkle said. “We really prioritize their feedback so we can do whatever we can to meet their needs. Without them, we wouldn’t be here.”

Kunkle then explained how Grassroots will begin packaging their products in Calyx Containers, which are a brand of eco-friendly cannabis containers.

“We’re really excited to be here, opening our 16th store for Herbology and Grassroots,” Kahn said. “This is actually a newly remodeled store, and we are excited to share it with the folks of Morton and Pennsylvania in general.”

“We are happy to be here and appreciate your hospitality.”

The sun was high as each half of the ribbon fell towards the wayside, fluttering slightly in the gentle breeze.

“I believe this new location is a really great opportunity,” Kahn said during a follow-up interview. “At Herbology, we really focus on serving the community by spreading a lot of information and education about medicinal cannabis.”

Attendees applauded Kahn as they began to wrap back around the side of the facility in a line.

“[Smiles] I’m here because I’m a pothead,” said Mark White, a patient who uses medical marijuana to treat Lyme Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis. “It really helps with everything; headaches, pain.”

“I don’t want to rely on painkillers. I’d rather use a medicine that’s more natural.”

Paul Herbert, the manager of the tobacco shop Primal Glass down the street said he believes that Herbology’s new location will be great for business.

“It’s cool that it’s so close, very convenient,” Herbert said. “We’re ready for [Herbology] to open, because we have [medical marijuana] patients who come in all the time asking us different information [about dispensaries].”

Other patients in line could be heard discussing what products they were interested in as they glanced over the menu for Herbology’s Morton location.

“I’m torn between getting a gram of Pootie Tang or Sherbert,” said Xavier Seay, a fellow medical marijuana patient and co-contributor to The Burgundy Zine. “Honestly, I just want to get anything Grassroots.”

Towards the back of the line, representatives with Canna Care Docs were explaining how to join the medical marijuana program in Pennsylvania to attendees who were interested.

Upon entering the dispensary, patients are greeted by neutral tones, plants, and stacks of books containing vital information about cannabis and the industry. There are also a variety of posters in the waiting room that depict the benefits of different terpenes and the history of medicinal marijuana.

I was assisted by the Herbologist Max Rosetski. When I inquired about purchasing a strain of Grassroots flower that contained the terpenes limonene and linalool, Rosetski promptly and happily directed me towards White Sour, which was featured in an installment of The Burgundy Zine’s Strain of the Week series.

“I think this new location is really great for the community,” Seay said. “Hopefully it will educate the people and help them gain a new perspective on medicinal cannabis.”
