Chlorophyll Breaks Down
By: burgundy bug
I exist beyond the sparks that keep my nervous system charged

i change with the hues of the leaves,
ease into each new identity with a breeze,
waiting for the me that feels pleased,
appeased by shifts in pace,
eager the learn the curve of each new face,
universal ghosting’s my only saving grace,
i’d always felt so out of place,
seeping through the pores of the skin that i’d been given,
it’s no one else’s fault that i feel i don’t fit in,
to the mold made for me or my love for anarchy,
seeking solace in the role of a rebel or a martyr,
renegades or fire starters,
yet i ain’t nothin’ but a goodie two shoes,
miss an assignment and i’ll be nothin’ but blues and boo-hoos,
leavin’ my ego contused,
boo-boos and personality fugues,
extract me with a centrifuge,
bottle up the parts of me you’d like to use,
adorn each section of my essence with a label,
compartmentalize me where you are able,
it keeps your perception stable, sterile,
’cause god forbid my parts mix,
and share traits, you’ll think they’ve bonded over contaminants,
but we are more than just our titles,
our passions, secrets, triumphs, and trials,
it’s easier to see me in 2d,
but i am not geometric,
yes, my body’s all chemistry and electric,
yet i exist beyond the series of sparks,
that keeps my nervous system charged,
i’m a bolt of fucking lightning,
striking by the north pole,
branching out and starting fires in the snow,
leaving my signature on the brush wherever i go,
you may know me as an editor or publicist,
an artist or a scientist,
a patient or a pre-med student,
but i don’t fall so neatly into just one of those titles,
nor am i just the sum of my parts,
i change with the hues of the leaves,
i drift gently through the breeze,
claiming new identities as i please.
