That’s right, bug buddies. For this week’s installment of Tune-In Tuesdays, we’re reviewing the infamous “Adult Swim” audio that’s currently trending on TikTok: “Running Away” by VANO 3000.
A Bit of Context…
VANO 300 is a Florida-based music producer who’s currently sweeping TikTok for sparking the “[adult swim]” trend. The trend comes as a somewhat nostalgic callback to Adult Swim bumps, which are buffers between the commercial breaks and their shows.
People trying to discredit me for sampling probably don’t realize that I created the [adult swim] trend too— VANO 3000 (@supvano) June 7, 2021
Often, these bumps are a brief clip (sometimes of nature, sometimes of a black screen, and so on) with an esoteric message and a funky beat looping behind them. But the recurring theme is they all end with the “[adult swim]” or “[as]” logo.
For those who weren’t raised on cable television, Adult Swim is a nighttime programming block that airs after Cartoon Network, usually between the hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The block features adult-oriented cartoons, and occasionally, anime.
Users all across TikTok have taken this trend on and given it a life of its own, putting their own unique spin on Adult Swim bumps. And the best part? Adult Swim is supporting the trend.

The dreamy, ephemeral track immediately pulls the listener in with its chill-yet-upbeat melody. Simple and catchy, the phrase “Running away is easy, it’s the leaving that’s hard” loops throughout the duration of the track.
Around 11 seconds into the song, there’s a smooth switch into a rhythmic, bass-driven beat. The word “Time” punctuates “Running Away” every four to eight beats, adding an abrupt pacing to the song that keeps the listener alert and tuned in.
There’s something about “Running Away” that’s inexplicably soothing. Perhaps it’s the melody, or perhaps it’s the association with Adult Swim that gives it a warm, inviting, sentimental quality. In any case, “Running Away” is a wistful, fetching track with high replayability.
If you’re looking for something new to find yourself humming along to throughout the week (assuming it hasn’t already found its way across your For You Page), you owe it to yourself to give “Running Away” a listen.
