Pull out your notepad and pen or whip out your smartphone and get dialing, it’s time to show the one who brought you into this world a little love.

After all, she did let you live in her uterus for nine months. A letter or a phone call is the least you can do for her.

Weekly Recap

We began this week with stunning macro photographs of mantises, as captured by Calvin Taylor Lee.

On Monday, poet Priti encouraged environmental awareness through her poem “Nature.”

On Tuesday, we tuned-in to an interview with activist and indie-folk artist Raye Zaragoza. Then, we tuned-in to a review of pop and R&B artist Ash’s latest single, “Floating Away.”

On Wednesday, artist Saumya delighted us with her soft pastel painting of calla lilies, which was accompanied by additional information on the beauty and symbolism of the flowers.

On Thursday, we released our first Burgundy Zine Merch Store Update, which featured a preview of the digital sticker rewards our backers will receive for pledging at least $5.

On Friday, we published our interview with Better App Co-Founder John Halker, in which we discussed the Better App, emotional wellness, and psych education.

On Saturday, we shared information on Cuseum’s augmented reality “Museum From Home” and the study that demonstrated how the brain perceives paintings through AR, virtual reality, and two-dimensional digital environments in comparison to viewing the art in person.

Last, but most certainly not least, we released our first installment in our editorial series, “Bug’s Philosophy,” in which editor burgundy bug volleys around different ideas and theories straight from her pocket journal.

Going Forward

Going forward, we’re entering our final stretch before “The Burgundy Zine #15: Go Green” is released on May 28th.

We’re going to continue releasing content centered around our theme as we simultaneously lay out the articles, photography, and artwork in this issue of our zine. You can follow along with our progress by checking out our stories on Instagram!

The submission deadline for this issue is May 21. More information on submitting content for this issue of The Burgundy Zine is available here.

As always, keep your ears out for our upcoming Tune-In Tuesdays installments this week and keep your eyes out for our next Burgundy Zine Merch Store update on Thursday!

In the meantime, stay healthy, stay safe, and tell your mom (or someone in your life who has been like a mom to you – even if they’re your best friend or co-worker) that you love her.

Until next week,
